THE HUNTON FAMILY, PAGE 6

ARMS

The Arms of the family of Hunton in the county of Wiltshire in England are described as follows: Sable on a chevron, ermine between three talbots passant, argent; crest, a demi-talbot rampant and erased, argent. Granted 1578.

William HUNTON, of Wiltshire, changed this coat of arms somewhat, and Cook calls attention to the fact in his visitation of Wiltshire in 1623. I have seen, in the College of Heraldry at London, this old coat roughly drawn in pen and ink. The coat, which was granted to William Hunton in heraldic language, is thus blazoned: —"Ar. on a chev. per pale, gu. and az. between three talbots passant, sa. as many stags’ heads caboshed, or; crest, a demi-taIbot, gu. collared and eared, or. holding between his paws a stag’s head caboshed of the first."

There is no motto recorded with the arms.
