The term "missing link" means nothing more than the fact that I can not determine where the individual mentioned below should be connected to the Huntoon family from data I have seen. If I have put the name on this page, it means solely that it is probable that this Huntoon family is part of the Huntoon clan that originated with Philip Hunton of Exeter and Kingston, New Hampshire--but the connection isn't apparent. There is no standard of proof applied here! Anyone who wants to make additional postings, or wants to clarify anything here, please let me know by email.

Last Updated on 8/20/00 1. There are many George Washington Huntoons in Daniel T. V. Huntoon's work. But Leanne Moringlanes's George Washington Huntoon (born in Vermont and moved to Evanston, Illinois) listed at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pines/3164 doesn't clearly link up to any one of them yet. Is this possibly the same George Washington Huntoon who was warned out of Danville, Caledonia County, Vermont July 2, 1814 per town reocrds (p. 70) cited in Alden, Vermont Warnings Out, v1.? 2. Alonzo Huntoon appears in Bridgewater, VT land sale records along with Hilton Huntoon in 1866 and nowhere else in Vermont that I can find. An unidentified A. Huntoon has a land transaction with Hilton Huntoon there in 1834. The only other Alonzo Huntoons I find appear in Tazewell County IL census (1840) and Pike County census (1850). These may or may not be the same person. From individual research and discussion posted on Huntoon-L recently (Aug 11 thru 14, 2000), Allan Abrahamse decided on weak evidence to assign Alonzo as a son of Hilton Huntoon. I am following along, and posting that family under Hilton Huntoon. In addition to the land deeds linking Hilton and Alonzo is the neatly coincidental departure of newly-married Alonzo and Mary Ellen Huntoon with husband James Townsend from Bridgewater/Barnard shortly after 1838, also for northern Illinois. That 1838 or 1839 dating follows also Mary Ellen and Alonzo's mother's death and Hilton's 1836 remarriage to Lydia Dunbar Hathaway. 3. Allan Abrahamse found an entry for 1850 census of Salem, Orleans Co. VT for Philip Huntoon, age 47 Hannah, age 30 Otis, age 15 Aris, age 9, Samuel, age 7 , Candis, age 5. All are shown as born in C.E. (Canada East or Quebec) That age would have put his birthdate as 1803. Salem VT was at the Canadian border. This Philip does not match the Huntoon Genealogy or other data that I have. Recently, I came across email from Nancy Hinerth (banker@gisco.net) who says her greatgrandmother was Aris C. Huntoon, daughter of Philip Huntoon and Hannah Morrison, and married Charles Crandall. They both died at Derby VT and are buried at West Charlesto(w)n VT. The following are from census data: An Otis Hontoon is at Alto, Fond du Lac Co WI in 1860 and in Plainview, Wabasha Co. MN in 1870. Philip Huntoon is not located at Salem VT after 1850 4. Allan Abrahamse found an entry for 1850 census at Rockingham VT for Alba Huntoon, age 50, b. C.E. He does not match the Huntoon Genealogy or other data that I have. 5. Patty Schantz, researching the Canadian Antoon/Huntoons, is interested in finding information on Asbrah Huntoon, located in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 census at Manchester, in Ontario County NY (NE of Canandaigua, and SE of Rochester NY) . In 1860, also Asbrah Jr. 6. From Kathy Beals, Early Families of Unity NH, "Unassigned Huntoons" on p. 104 are: (1) New Hampshire Archives, Box 430124 Docket 11611 "Contains a warning out addressed to the Constable of Kingston NH for a David Huntoon, minor, who came from Unity. Dated 13 Sep 1790." Also "Frances Huntoon was of Unity when she m. Elias J. Severance of Newport on 25 Apr 1838 [Unity Vital Records 174]" 7. There are several families of Huntoons in the Census of New Hampshire in 1850 who I am as yet unable to identify with Daniel T. V. Huntoon's families. The families are Charles Huntoon of Loudon NH, Warner Huntoon of Franconia NH, Horace Huntoon and David Huntoon families of Newport NH, and Robert T. Huntoon of Lyme NH. 8. There are several unassigned individuals in the census of New Hampshire in 1850:
