Either before or after the death of his first wife, and mother of his children, he established himself at Kingston, New Hampshire--a new town south and west of Exeter that was subject to Indian raids. During one of the raids, Philip was captured and transported to French Canada. In that same raid, his eldest son Samuel was killed. But upon his return, the family remained at Kingston. Both surviving sons--John and Philip--remained at Kingston for most of their lives, but in succeeding generations, grandchildren of Philip moved to Salisbury and Unity New Hampshire, both new towns in the western part of the state. After the Revolution, the family gradually moved away from New Hampshire, settling across the United States. Daniel T. V. Huntoon chronicled much of this movement for us. His father, a Congregational minister with some significant following in the 1830's to 1850's, had churches in Canton and Milton MA, Bangor ME, and Peoria IL. His brothers went to California, Idaho, and Kentucky. For each area to the right (Kingston, Salisbury, and Unity, New Hampshire plus the identified states) there is a list of Huntoons found in that location either in the Daniel T. V. Huntoon genealogy or in various censuses. Click on the area of interest to move to an area, then use the back button to return here.
